'Our plan is to have an electric car in every garage.”
Utah’s Economy
By the end of my first term as Governor of Utah, my goal is to have an electric car in every garage. This would be done in a two-approach manner.
The first phase would be to integrate electric cars with an expanded light rail system covering the Wasatch front. At every station, there would be an electric car rental outlet open 24/7/365 for a monthly service fee which includes insurance, upkeep, maintenance, and energy costs for electric vehicles built in Utah. These units could be picked up and dropped off at any location at any time or kept monthly at the individual’s home. Also at these locations would be gas-powered vehicles available for rental on an hourly, daily, or weekly basis.
The second phase in achieving this goal would include government intervention in Utah’s housing market in order to double the median value of a home in Utah from $250,000 to $500,000 by the end of my first term.
Paying for a lifestyle change would come from two sources, the first being grants and loans from Federal Government and Private Sources of up to 10 billion dollars (which is the cost of one month of war in Iraq). The second source would be a one-time property tax payment of $10,000 per single-family unit in the fourth year of my first term. I believe that, if we can double their property value in four years, residents will be happy to pay a one-time $10,000 payment to end Utah’s addiction to oil.
